Historical Winedale

Winedale is home to 10 nineteenth-century wooden structures, period furnishings, material culture, and an outstanding collection of Texas hand-crafted decorative arts. It was assembled by Houston philanthropist Miss Ima Hogg and then gifted to The University of Texas at Austin in 1967. Located on 225 acres in northern Fayette County, the site also features projects in partnership with the Gideon Lincecum Master Naturalists and the Texas A&M AgriLife program. Winedale’s collections offer a tangible link to the Texas past, capturing the evidence of history through architecture, furnishings, and decorative arts. A variety of public and private educational programs are held here each year, including Shakespeare at Winedale -- a University of Texas program dedicated to bringing Shakespeare to life through performance. Tours by appointment only.
